WWW Wednesday Blog Tag: Currently In The Middle of All The Books!

Happy Wednesday,

I have the day off and I’m hoping to be inspired to get a lot of reading done so figured by making a list, that would be a huge incentive. To say I currently have a lot of books going is putting it mildly and would be a weight off my shoulders to actually finish some of them so maybe this will be the week that it happens.

This post was inspired by Sam Stevens , so thank you for making the post!

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Currently reading:  I’m listening to The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates (audiobook via Libby) which I’m currently 70% through which has been very eye opening and brutal at times but also there’s been touches of magical realism and I highly recommend.

I’ve been slowly making my way through Between Worlds: Folktales of Britain & Ireland by Kevin Crossley-Holland and Francis Castle (Kindle) that is a collection of various short tales that I’ve enjoyed and plan to finish soon as it’s been on my currently reading list for a while.

I recently started A Song Below Water by Bethany C. Morrow (Kindle via Libby), so I’m not very far in but have been enjoying  as it’s about Sirens. Looking forward to seeing where the book will go and I love that it’s set in Portland, Oregon which really is one of the ideal places for such a theme.

Recently Finished: I started and finished The Tea Dragon Tapestry (Tea Dragon #3) by Katie O’Neill in one sitting yesterday and it was such a wonderful book as all of them have been in the series. My favorite would be the second book because it gives a lot of the back story plus I loved the various different reps that were throughout it.

IMG_20200804_141209_875.jpg

Reading Next: I haven’t decided yet though I will probably choose from my long list of books that are currently sitting on my desk. I would like to get to Moon of the Crusted Snow by Waubgeshig Rice   The Woman Who Rides Like a Man (Song of the Lioness #3) by Tamora Pierce, Storm of Locusts (The Sixth World #2) by Rebecca Roanhorse, The Pull of the Stars by Emma Donoghue, The City We Became (Great Cities #1) by N.K. Jemisin and The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett soon. I also I want to get myself ready to read for various readathons.

Well I’m off to continue wandering through bookland, probably add more books to my TBR and hopefully getting some reading in. Hope you’ve enjoyed my bookish ramblings and I will be back soon with more bookish content.

Happy Reading!

Ambitious July TBR & Journal Spread

Good evening,

Last month seemed to just fly by and I also participated in a number of different readathons. I had lots of fun and though I didn’t get to all the books I had planned, I had fun and that’s really what counts.

Speaking of reading, for this month I decided to attempt to make myself a TBR. In the past, this hasn’t work so well because the amount of books I want to read versus the amount of adulting usually doesn’t even out. I’ve been meaning to do more journaling because it’s soothing and a great reason to listen to an audiobook while seeing how creative I can get.

I’ve seen some amazing journaling out there and I am in awe of the kind of talent. It’s not something that I do every month but was inspired by a theme for this month after receiving a beautiful book so thought I’d give it a try while also keeping it fairly simple. I’m really happy with how it turned out. My spread isn’t fully done yet as I’m waiting to find out more info on a couple of readathons I’m interested in so thought I’d share what has been done so far while also a glimpse into my tentative TBR.

Book Links

Assassin’s Quest (The Farseer Trilogy #3) by Robin Hobb

People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks

The Signature of All Things by Elizabeth Gilbert

There Before the Chaos (The Farian War #1) by K.B. Wagers

Queen’s Shadow (Star Wars Disney Canon Novel) by E.K. Johnston

Where Dreams Descend (Kingdom of Cards #1) by Janella Angeles (my edition is from OwlCrate )

The Dragon Behind the Glass: A True Story of Power, Obsession, and the World’s Most Coveted Fish by Emily Voigt

Wundersmith: The Calling of Morrigan Crow (Nevermoor #2) by Jessica Townsend

I’ll be reading this book for the #EmberReadAlong hosted by Penguin Teen which is the

perfect reason to start a book of a series that I’ve been meaning to read for some time anyways!

An Ember in the Ashes (An Ember in the Ashes #1) by Sabaa Tahir

The City of Brass (The Daevabad Trilogy #1) by S.A. Chakraborty

I’ve been inspired to move this up my list considerably after Justine from IShouldReadThat has been gushing about this series for some time and recently was mentioning the newest book which was released yesterday. She’s an amazing person and I’ve added so many books to my never-ending pile of books to be read from her recommendations. The covers look absolutely stunning!

As you can see, my TBR is quite ambitious and most likely there will be some straying as I find other books that catch my attention but these are all books that I’ve had my eye on and figure July is a great month to tackle them. Hopefully now that I’ve posted about them, my brain will want to stick more to the list and here’s hoping I can squeeze these books into the challenges of readathons I have my eye on.

Well that wraps up my bookish ramblings for the time being. I hope to be more consistent with my blog posts and am determined to keep a track of the books I’ve read so at the end of the month, it won’t seem quite as overwhelming to put together. Looking forward to a hopefully amazing reading month. Oh the problems of a booknerd!

Happy Reading!

Magical Readathon April 2020

Happy Wednesday,

It’s hard to believe that it’s already April and that Spring is just about here. Every morning I love to hear the birds sing particularly ones that I’ve heard since I was a little girl though I couldn’t tell you what the names of those birds are.

Speaking of being young. one of my favorite readathons of the year starts today which is inspired by Harry Potter which I have been reading since I was around the same age as Harry. The books have a very nostalgic spot in my heart and now so does this readathon as it’s the third year of running. I was so excited that I even brought out my book journal (Ravenclaw pride for the win!) and had some fun with using letter stamps as well as stickers and a bit of digital manipulation. I’m not artistically inclined when it comes to sketching so have to be creative with using items that were designed by people who are! If anyone happens to know of a lovely bookstack rubber stamp and bookish stickers, please let me know. So enough about my artistic skills, it’s time to get to the more exciting parts!

I hope you have a wonderful reading month and may they bring you comfort particularly during these difficult times.

🍀🍀🍀March Reading Plans🍀🍀🍀

Happy Thursday,

I hope you’re having a wonderful week and that March is also going well for you. I had planned to get this TBR up sooner but it has taken longer than I expected and work has certainly kept me busy. Better late than never though, right?

March is one of my favorite months because it’s a time when Spring is not that far away plus there’s St. Patrick’s Day which I enjoy celebrating every year and get to nerd out more than usual about the Irish culture. I am very close to fully reading at my normal speed which is equal parts exciting and overwhelming as lately I seem to want to read all of the books at once.

Speaking of reading, there are several readathons as well as a few book clubs that I would like to join in on and looking forward to see whether I can combine books for different readathons as that would certainly tone down the stress and I would be multi tasking at the same time. Realistically, I most likely won’t be able to fully participate all of the readathons that interest me this month but the attempt will be half the fun and I’ll hopefully find some new favorite books.

Ambitious October TBR

Happy Sunday!

I’m spending most of my day attempting to read a lot of books, hopefully finish a few that I put aside for a while and hopefully get my currently reading pile down a bit. Good thing I’ve had some coffee to keep me going!

Screenshot_20191006-163815_Instagram

Hoping to tackle quite a few by the 15th as I leave for a vacation to D.C. for a week. Looking forward to exploring with my babe, eating and seeing some friends. Haven’t nailed down which books to bring though trying to limit myself to taking three physical books and my Kindle

My tentative TBR & books on my radar which will probably go out the window after the 15th:

-Angel Mage by Garth Nix (on my radar)

Gilmore Girls Readathon (1st-15th)
-The Ship Who Sang by Anne McCaffrey (completed)

– Book Girl by Sarah Clarkson (currently reading)

-Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng

-Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

-A Study In Death by Anna Lee Huber

-The Time Traveler’s Wife (reread and a possibility if I get to the rest of my readathon books)

Night Owl Book Club (Library)
-The Story of Arthur Truluv by Elizabeth Berg

Stormlight Archive Readalong (hosted by ebnovels )
-The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson (currently reading)

Books I’m over halfway through
-The Harp of Kings by Juliet Marillier (less than 140 pages left)

-The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton

Other Books I hope to get through
-Mariana (reread) by Susanna Kearsley

-Splendor Falls by Susanna Kearsley as -Voyage of the Basilisk by Marie Brennan

-An Echo In The Bone by Diana Gabaldon (at least read a few chapters)

As I mentioned to a few people, there’s so many books and so little time! Here’s hoping my pile doesn’t fall on me.

Well that wraps up my bookish ramblings for now. I will return soon with more bookish content and maybe even a tentative TBR for vacation.

Happy Reading!

N.E.W.T.s Readathon TBR

Good morning,

Happy August 1st! It’s a little hard for me to believe that Fall is just around the corner though it is my favorite time of year!
Speaking of favorite things, one of my favorite readathons starts today which is the N.E.W.T.s Readathon which is a HP-themed readathon created by Book Roast on YouTube
You can learn more info by going to the Magical Readathon Twitter page and it involves lots of reading and fun times!

Announcement Video

I took my O.W.L.S. earlier this year with the intent of trying for Healer and then realized it wasn’t possible this time around. So now I’ve decided to go with either Herbologist or Magizoologist who have similar subjects funnily enough. My TBR is very ambitious but that seems to be something that can’t be helped and I’m not expecting to get to every book.

So here’s my TBR and I may even attempt a bit of bullet journaling. I recently bought myself one and am new at it so should be interesting because my artistic skills are rather limited when it comes to sketching (my attempts at drawing people turn into stick figures) but I hope that I’ll enjoy it nonetheless and get on the BUJO train so to speak. I haven’t figured out a design yet for this readathon so when I do, I’ll be sure to post a picture on my Instagram. I’m so happy I found my stash of HP-themed pencils from an OwlCrate box!

🌿Herbology🌿  O for Herbologist; E for Magizoologist

A- The Border Keeper by Kerstin Hall
E- Emily & Einstein by Linda Francis Lee
O- It Takes Two by Jenny Holiday

💫Charms💫 E for Magizoologist

E- On Luna Time by Amber Crawley
O- Crown of Feathers by Nicki Pau-Preto

📜Forbidden Section (Group Book that can take the place of one required book for career)📜

Spellslinger by Sebastien De Castell

Subjects I would like to read if there’s time:

🔭🌟Astronomy🔭🌟

A- Love Potions by Michelle M. Pillow
E- A Duke In The Night by Kelly Bowen
O- Saga Volume II by Brian K. Vaughan & Fiona Staples (Artist)

⚔️Defense Against The Dark Arts⚔️

🦔Transfiguration🦔

A- The Tea Dragon Festival by Katie O’Neill

🖋️Ancient Runes🖋️

A- You’re Never Weird on the Internet (Almost) by Felicia Day

Well that wraps up my bookish ramblings for now. I’m hoping for a successful readathon and that I won’t burn myself out from trying to read so many books in one month. Looking forward to seeing which books will be the most enjoyable and bringing my TBR down a bit plus all these books is making my Ravenclaw self very happy. Best of luck to my fellow bookish HP nerds!

Happy Reading!

Top 10 Tuesday: Bookstacks on Desk Edition

Good afternoon,

I’ve been adding a lot to my TBR pile lately between book sales, library holds and some back lists that I’m trying to make as a priority. The easiest way for me to notice them is to place on my desk which has become a rather interesting way of organizing. So I’ve decided that the best way to tackle my precarious piles is to make a list and hope it will slowly but surely dwindle.

I have many more books than ten but it seems like a good number to start with and a number that isn’t too overwhelming. Oh the trials and tribulations of a bookworm! Without further ado, I present to you my rather eclectic list.

43252733

Mythic Journeys: Retold Myths and Legends by Paula Guran (Editor)

25902919

Public Library and Other Stories by Ali Smith

371510

Queen of the Amazons by Judith Tarr

17312156._SY475_

Tempests and Slaughter (The Numair Chronicles #1) by Tamora Pierce

33830616

The Hills Have Spies (Valdemar: Family Spies #1) by Mercedes Lackey

45914805._SY475_

To the Waters and the Wild: A Novel by S.C. McGrath

2115046

The Well of Ascension (Mistborn #2) by Brandon Sanderson

16153296

Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys

25300956

Royal Assassin (Farseer Trilogy #2) by Robin Hobb

32333338._SY475_

Save the Date by Morgan Matson

So that wraps up my bookish ramblings for the time being. There’s so many books I want to read and yet so little time. Though I’ve read a lot of books so far this year, it feels as though I’ve fallen very much behind but I’m determined to tackle some of my books that are on my various lists of books that have caught my notice. Speaking of books, I am off to the Library to pick up my holds and hopefully get in some reading. Wish me luck!

Happy Reading!

TBR Jar Readathon Has Arrived!

Happy Friday,

I’m so looking forward to a weekend of no work, hopefully squeezing in some reading and having fun.

Speaking of reading, I recently heard of a Readathon that starts today and I’m so excited to join in. There aren’t any challenges apart from picking books from whichever container you choose to use and reading those pics. Trying to figure out a TBR tends to be a struggle for me so this kind of Readathon is perfect for me! Before I go into what I’ve picked out, I’ve included all of the information that you may need to participate.

TBR Jar ReadAThon

My Jar of Choice which came in an OwlCrate Box:

Physical TBR Possibilities

Kindle TBR Possibilities

I picked out six different kinds of books to choose from but I’m not expecting to get to them all. I like to think of them as possibilities because I tend to be a mood reader and sometimes there just isn’t enough hours in the day to read all of the books I plan to. I am planning to be optimistic and attempt to read at least three books and go from there. Oh the problems of a bookworm!

Well I had best stop my ramblings and get to reading because I have quite the variety to choose from and my first read is quite the chunky book. I’m looking forward to eventually finishing the series which has been a long time coming and seeing what next is in store for the Shadow Hunter world!

Have a wonderful weekend and happy reading!

P.S. Sorry that this post is going up a day late. I had it scheduled to go up on Friday but for some strange reason it was deleted and I was left with a draft. The joys of technology at times…. here’s hoping this one goes through just fine!

Top 10 Tuesday: Books I’m In The Middle Of

Good morning,

Hard to believe that it’s May already and Summer is just around the corner! I’m not looking forward to the hotter months but I am looking forward to wearing shorts, the longer days and being grateful to have central air!

Another thing that I’m looking forward to is trying to take down my currently reading pile. I have finished a lot of books this year but I also have many that I’ve been in the middle of and was distracted by others whether due to readathons, library books needing to be read before their due date or just other books in general. So I’ve decided to start with the top ten that I hope to finish soon, most of whom I stopped past the halfway mark and really need to be finished so I can move on to others that have come across my radar. As per usual, I don’t have them arranged in any particular order.

28194

Inkheart (Inkworld #1) by Cornelia Funke, Anthea Bell (Translator)

31391129

The Mermaids of Lake Michigan by Suzanne Kamata

Wishing For a Highlander (Highland Wishes #1) by Jessi Gage

17404747

The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics by Daniel James Brown

Well that wraps up my bookish ramblings for the time being. I have quite the eclectic list of books that I’m hoping to finish soon which is part of the fun and several others that are on my radar. I’m looking forward to that great feeling of finishing books that I set aside for a bit and somehow didn’t pick back up. I will be back soon with more bookish ramblings and I hope that your reading is going great!

Happy Reading

🍀Irish Readathon📖

Happy March 1st!

This month is always one of my favorites because Spring is just around the corner and for those of you who may not know, March for me is the time I am inspired more than usual to enjoy the Irish Culture. I am a huge fan of the Irish culture and some of my ancestors came from Ireland. It’s my dream to some day be able to visit Ireland, see the beauty for myself, enjoy the food, visit some of the pubs, learn some of the slang, visit the bookstores and see the country that I’ve been dreaming of visiting since I was in the seventh grade.

Luckily I can travel to Ireland in the meantime through books, movies and celebrate while I save for that opportunity. Speaking of celebrating, St. Patrick’s Day is one of my favorite holidays that I celebrate by dressing up in green, wearing some Irish jewelry, have a drink or two and eat delicious food in the form of Corned Beef, Cabbage, Colcannon and many other tasty dishes. I also have Irish cookbooks that family and friends have given to me that I love being able to pull out and experiment with.

Speaking of books, I made a personal goal for myself to read more of my Irish-themed books this year and what better month than this one? I probably won’t be able to get to all of the books that I would like to because I’ll be participating in a variety of readathons this month but I’ve pulled out the ones that I want to get to soon.

IMG_20190301_151849 (1)

I call this stack my variety of Irish books to choose from.

One readathon in particular that I will be participating is the Irish Readathon which will be hosted by Aoife on her YouTube channel- Fred Weasley Died Laughing  (if you click the link will take you to the announcement page). Her co-hosts will be Leanne and Elaine. It’s a month long readathon and there’s some challenges that have been set and are purely optional to join in on.

Challenges:

🍀 Read a book with green on the cover

th (10)th (13)

🍀Read a book from a female Irish author

th (12)th (14)

🍀 Read a book from a host’s favorite Irish writer (Aoife’s favorite is Sarah Rees Brennan, Leanne’s favorite is Louise O’Neill and Elaine’s favorite is Marian Keyes)

th (15)

🍀 Read a book that isn’t a novel

th (16)

🍀 Read a book that’s older than you

th (17)

My choices are liable to change depending on my mood but I am hoping to stick close to what I’ve decided on. I’m so excited to dive in, reread some favorite Irish books and discover some new ones! If you have any particular favorites that come to mind, please feel free to leave a comment or find me on my social media links. I’ll be back soon with more bookish posts!

Happy Reading
